h2d magicurl X3

The curling wand that claims to create a curl that holds for 3 days. So, does it? Well, yes quite frankly. And that's pretty much all you need to know! haha but you know me, I'm all about a comprehensive review.

Firstly, the pros:

  • It literally does create curls that last for 2-3 days thanks to the tourmaline-ceramic technology (obviously the curls are not as tight on the second and third day but they are FAR better than any other curling wand or straightening iron I have ever used);
  • It has 3 interchangeable wands of differing sizes (19mm, 25mm and 35mm) to achieve any size curl you might like (caveat below - see cons);
  • Variable heat so you don't sizzle your hair any more than you absolutely have to (lower for fine hair, higher for thicker hair); and
  • Comes with a heat proof glove so you don't burn your guiding hand (ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY when you use a clip-free curling wand).
The cons:
  • 35mm is probably not large enough for my liking. I personally have a 38mm Babyliss that creates STUNNING big, glam curls and I guess I'm a little attached to the way those curls look (but they don't last a day let alone 2-3!!);
  • I find the clip-free curlers more difficult to use which means you don't get the best curl (unless you are fabulously talented with a clip-free curling wand);
  • Probably not the most sophisticated looking heat setting/technologies on the wand itself (minor detail).
  • Price. These units are very costly, ranging from $264.95 in Australia (www.h2d.com.au) to 109.99 pound in the UK (approximately $175) (www.h2dhair.com)...which leads me to my biggest gripe.
Naturally, I purchased my unit from the UK site as the price was better and it included free shipping. Fab, you think? Not so much. It turns out the website was set up incorrectly which allowed me to purchase even though I do not reside in the UK. This meant the UK entity took a hit on postage. The money came straight off my credit card yet I didn't receive any contact from them for approximately 3 weeks from memory.

Understandably, I was very concerned and made several attempts to contact them with no response. Eventually I found their facebook page and wrote a public message explaining my concern and asking them to contact me. It was deleted. I sent another couple until I received an email from the company explaining that they had sent the unit within the last day or so and had taken a hit on postage, inferring that I should have purchased from the Australian company etc etc.

I'm sorry, but if you are offering the same unit in a different country at a drastically different price, naturally people are going to purchase the cheaper option.

Did my experience with this company put me off? Definitely! Enough to not purchase this unit? I don't think so. I am THAT impressed with the hold of the curls it produces. However, I still prefer the gorgeous curls of my super large barrelled Babyliss and the fact that it has a clip which makes it much easier to wind the hair and get a perfect curl.

If you don't want 38mm curls, you DEFINITELY need this curling wand. It is incredible. The staying power is beyond that of anything I have tried on today's market. Master the knack of clip-free curling and you'll be a fan for life.

If anyone hears of any large barrel curlers (eg 38mm) that claim to have the necessary technology (such as tourmaline-ceramic) to hold curls for 2-3 days please let me know. I will buy one and review it for you all!

If you have any questions or queries feel free to leave a comment (thanks to the modern wonders of wireless technology I respond pretty quickly!).

Leave me comments, questions, queries, share your experiences! I want to hear from you!

And please subscribe to my blog and send a link to your friends. You won't be bombarded with rubbish, just an update when I've posted something you probably want to know!

Love love xx

*Clip-free curling wand simply means a curling wand without the clippy thing that holds the hair in place as you wind.

** My experience with the company mentioned above has been depicted entirely from my own perspective and as truthfully as I can from my own experiences. I am sure the company has a perspective of their own and this should be borne in mind when reading my review.
